Adjustment

Chiropractic Adjustment

Chiropractic at its finest.

The most common reasons people seek chiropractic adjustments are to treat lower back pain, pinched nerves, headaches, and neck pain. And these areas of discomfort are typically caused by misalignment of the joints.

Chiropractic Adjustment for Back Pain | Northgate Accident & Injury Clinic

Spinal adjustment, also known as spinal manipulation or manual manipulation, is conducted by a licensed, trained specialist who uses an instrument or their hands to apply an abrupt controlled force to the spinal joints to correct misalignment, increase the range of motion, or release nerve pressure. The patient is typically lying face down or standing up, and sounds of joints popping or cracking are expected during a chiropractic adjustment. Regardless of the spinal manipulation method, chiropractic adjustment aims to restore proper joint alignment and allow the body to heal naturally.

Dr. Trevor at Northgate Accident & Injury Clinic follows a holistic approach to treating the body as a whole rather than separate systems. We seek to find the underlying cause of your pain rather than the pain itself. Often the pain you are experiencing is caused by another area of your body.

Why Spinal Manipulations?

The most common reasons people seek chiropractic adjustments are to treat lower back pain, pinched nerves, headaches, and neck pain. And these areas of discomfort are typically caused by misalignment of the joints.

What Causes Misalignment?

Muscles, ligaments, and other soft tissue are designed to hold your vertebrae and other joints in place, and the discs between your joints are flexible and spongy.

This flexibility allows your joints to move in the way they intended, but it also allows them to move out of alignment.

This can be caused by the following:

  • An abrupt jolt to your body, such as a fall, car accident, or injury.
  • Muscle contractions that pull your joints out of alignment
  • Poor posture (either while awake or while sleeping)
  • Repetitive motions
  • Scoliosis or other genetic deformities

Unfortunately, most primary care practitioners suggest a treatment plan involving over-the-counter medications, physical therapy, or surgery to reduce pain. But by addressing the root cause of the problem, chiropractic treatment can end your painful symptoms without any uncomfortable side effects.

When Not To See A Chiropractor For An Adjustment?

There are times when a chiropractic adjustment can make your symptoms worse. For example, if you have experienced any of the following, you can not seek chiropractic adjustment:

  • Cancer in your spine
  • A known bone abnormality
  • Severe osteoporosis
  • An increased risk of stroke
  • Tingling, numbness, or reduced strength in an arm or leg

Northgate Accident & Injury Clinic For A Chiropractic Alignment

Spinal misalignments are much more common (and harmful) than you might realize. There’s a good chance you have a joint misalignment right now without realizing it! Unlike traditional medicine, chiropractic care doesn’t rely on pain medication or surgery; it aims to correct the source of your discomfort rather than mask symptoms.
